About

Hey, I am Heather!!  I am first and foremost the wife to an amazing husband, Carlo. I am also mama to 3 babies. 2 are our crazy pups Eli and Eleanor.  We adopted Eli while living in Michigan in Fall 2007. He is a split face border collie who is ball obsessed and can't run enough.  Eleanor, who we adopted from Albuquerque, NM in Spring 2009, is an Australian Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix who is L-A-Z-Y! lol  We also have our newest fur baby Peggy Sue, who we got in February 2012.  She is a crazy little Jack Russell who gives Eli a run for his money!  Carlo and I had our first human baby, Audrey on January 28, 2011.  She has turned our worlds upside down and changed our lives completely.  She was the best thing to happen to our little family! We are also thrilled to announce that we are expected baby #2 sometime around March 21st 2014!!  It's a great time for our little family!

We are a VERY natural family and are all about eating healthy.  We are also a dairy and gluten free household. I also like to keep things as sugar free as possible.  Starting January 2013, I also went vegetarian, which means Audrey is mostly vegetarian.   As far as raising Audrey goes, we are attachment parents who: cloth diapered, co-sleep and bed share, baby wear, used sign language, use natural and herbal remedies, believe in gentle discipline, and used baby-led weaning.  I attempted to have a water birth at our local birthing center (check out my Birth Story) and am a HUGE supporter and believer in birthing centers, midwives, home births, and natural birth in general.  I am also a big advocate for breastfeeding.  At over 2 1/2 years I am proud to say that Audrey is still breastfeeding.  In summer 2013 I started my doula certification and even attended my first birth! It was an incredible experience.

As far as me... I received a bachelor's in Music Education and a Master's in Performance (my instrument is clarinet, and I am a total clarinet nerd!)   I am currently a part-time stay at home mom because I am the new adjunct professor of clarinet at ULL!!  It's a BIG change, but I love it.  I am at the university a few hours a couple days a week which leaves me to be with miss Audrey for the rest of the week!!!  I still have my private clarinet studio and truly believe I have the best students ever!  I LOVE what I do!!  I'm a big fan of 40's music, especially Frank Sinatra although I LOVE Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald too and Dave Matthews Band.  I love feathers and fascinators and believe they make every outfit better! So do scarfs I am also a HUGE LSU football fan!!

As far as Carlo and I go, we are high school sweethearts, but not in the traditional sense, we didn't go to the same high school.  We lived 2.5 hours away from each other and met at ...wait for it.......BAND CAMP!  Yup, you read that right.  My husband, also plays clarinet and still does in our local community band. When it works out right we even swap out for concerts so sometimes I get to play too! We also have the same birthday, date and year! Kind of freaky yet very cool!!   We married right out of college in December 2006, at the age of 21.  We are crazy for each other!!  I would describe Carlo and I as Alley and Noah from the Notebook.  We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE each other.  We love super awkward moments and taking crazy pictures. We have lived in Ypsilanti, Michigan; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and are currently in Lafayette, Louisiana!  This is one of my FAVORITE awkward pictures of us! :-) This is "us' in a nutshell!!

This was us being Pirates at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville in Orlando.  We did NOT plan this picture which is even more AWESOME!!
